DOUGLAS – For the first time since 2005, the Torrington Trailblazer wrestlers picked up a dual win over Douglas, with nine Blazers snagging wins in one fashion or another to hand the Bearcats a 48-24 loss in Douglas on Tuesday.

Starting at 106 pounds, Torrington’s Riley Duffield snagged a forfeit win. Nycholas Melchor took the mat at 113 pounds, taking Jacob Smylie the distance in an 8-4 decision in favor of the Blazer. Quentin Meyer kept the winning going for Torrington with a pin over Kagan Lenzen at the 2:58-mark.

At 126 pounds, Nicholas Sherbeyn was pinned by Kadin Matthews in the first period. Austin Fox got Torrington back in the winning column with a pin over Cayden Dowse with less than a minute to go in the match. Tristen Kingsley recorded another six points for the Blazers with a forfeit win.

Returning to action, Jacob Polkowske continued his stellar season with a pin over Christian Coffman at the 3:10-mark. Casey Britton went the distance and beyond at 152 pounds, besting Hazen Walmsley by a 9-5 decision in sudden victory. Following suit, Chase Dominguez (160) and Dax Reed went into extra time, with the advantage going to Reed in a 6-4 decision in sudden victory.

After the 160-pound weight class, Torrington was up 36-9. With five matches to go, the dual was not settled, but Douglas had to win each of the remaining matches to win.

Josh Kingsley ended that hope as he pinned Dylon Chase in the second period at 170 pounds, putting the dual out of reach of the Bearcats.

Although the dual was unwinnable for Douglas, the Bearcats still rattled off three-straight wins. Jakob Brott (182) lost via a 15-2 major decision against Kullin Lindbo. Torrington’s 195-pounder in Riley Grubbs was pinned in the first period by Gabe Borman. Brandon Bennick suffered a technical fall (15-0) against Cody Pinkerton.

Torrington heavyweight Jacob Wamboldt ended the dual on a high note for Torrington, recording a pin over Dallas Wik at the 2:51 mark.

The dual win over Douglas was part of a quad Tuesday, with Niobrara County and Wheatland also in attendance. The Blazers picked up the win in convincing fashion over the Tigers.

Sherbeyn suffered a loss via pin in the third period to open the dual, before Fox, Tristen Kingsley and Polkowske all got wins by forfeit to give the Blazers an 18-6 lead early in the dual. Dominguez went the distance against Cole Mellott, falling by a 3-0 decision.

Josh Kingsley returned Torrington to the winning column with a pin over Damien Molzahn at the 4:29 mark, before the Blazers suffered a forfeit loss at 182. Grubbs and Bennick had forfeit matches of their own, racking up 12 points for Torrington.

Wamboldt and Melchor rattled off back-to-back quick wins for the Blazers. Wamboldt pinned Jasper Caldera at the 1:02-mark, followed by Melchor who pinned James Cushman in 46 seconds. Duffield had a quick match as well, winning by forfeit. To close out the dual, Meyer and William Fish went the distance, with Fish snagging the 7-0 decision win.

After the win by Driskill, Torrington won the next eight matches to seal the dual. Fox got the winning started with a 10-7 decision over Ethan Read, followed by Tristen Kingsley winning by a 4-0 decision against Drake Amundson and Polkowske besing Seth DeWitt by a 6-0 decision.

Britton picked up a win via pin, getting the whistle at the 1:19-mark over Kyle Hicks. Dominguez had the same result in his match, pinning Semione Mainetti late in the first period. Josh Kingsley, Grubbs and Bennick closed out the match with forfeit wins for Torrington.

After sweeping the Douglas Quad, the Blazers hit the road this weekend to compete in the Lander Invitational. Action kicks off at 2 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. Saturday.
