TORRINGTON – The owner of Thrifty’s Gas & Liquor in Torrington, Kuldip “Cheema” Singh, was sentenced to serve four months in the Scotts Bluff County Jail and pay more than $6,000 in fines after Scotts Bluff County Court Judge Kris Mickey entered a judgement and sentence against Singh on Aug. 4
Singh was convicted of eight counts, four of evasion of liquor tax and four of acquiring liquor from someone other than a licensed dealer, by a jury in Scotts Bluff County.
The conviction occurred in May, but the investigation began back in the fall of 2020 when the Nebraska State Patrol and Nebraska Liquor Control Commission were informed of allegations against Singh for having purchased alcoholic beverages from an authorized wholesaler.
As of press time, Singh maintains his liquor licenses in Nebraska and in Wyoming.
