CHEYENNE – Portions of eastern and southeastern Wyoming, including Goshen County, are under a high wind warning Monday even as highways and interstates in east-central and southeastern portion of the state are closed due to blowing snow.
The National Weather Service in Cheyenne expects snow to continue throughout the morning Monday, increasing in both coverage and intensity as the storm moves east. As of 5 a.m., a portion of Interstate 80 between Laramie and Rawlings is closed.
Additionally, portion of both I-80 and U.S. Hwy. 30 west of Cheyenne were reported to be slick with ongoing snowfall and blowing snow, with portions further west closed as of 7:45 a.m. Monday, according to the Wyoming Department of Transportation roads condition website.
Wyoming Hwy. 59 between Hwy. 94 at Douglas and the Campbell/Converse County line was also closed. WyDOT estimates it could take between five and eight hours to reopen the roadways.
National Weather Service officials caution against unnecessary travel during the storm. If travel is absolutely necessary, extreme caution should be exercised.
