TORRINGTON – All of the local high schools competed at the Mitchell, Neb. Invitational last weekend, resulting in seven new prequalifying standards by Goshen County athletes.
Southeast
Chase Lovercheck prequalified for two events, with both of his times coming from the Bayard CD Invitational. In the 400-meter dash, he clocked a time of 51.89 seconds, along with a time of 2:02.63 in the 800, earning him a spot at the state meet in both events.
At the Mitchell Invite last week, Lovercheck linked up with Kaden Malm and Brant and Brady Fullmer for the 1600-meter relay. The foursome’s time of 3:37.69 was faster than the prequalifying time needed.
The Lady Cyclones had a relay team of their own eclipse the state qualifying standard. In Mitchell last week, Hailey Anderson, Jaiden Hopkins, Kelci Lovercheck and Ellie Schmitt turned in a time of 11:10.53 in the 3200-meter relay.
Lingle-Fort Laramie
Landen Fuller added to the list of events he has already prequalified for. At the Mitchell, Neb. Invite, his time of 23.18 seconds in the 200-meter dash punched his ticket for state. Also on the track, Rhett Greenwald’s time of 17.52 seconds in the 110-meter hurdles and Cole Shepardson’s time of 43.10 seconds in the 300-meter hurdles were both good enough to surpass the prequalifying standards.
Shepardson, Greenwald and Fuller were also joined by Hayden Hill for the 400-meter relay in Mitchell last week, posting a time of 46.86 seconds, which is better than the prequalifying time.
For the Lady Doggers, the 3200-meter relay team of Cora Frederick, Jenna Kaufman, Shelby Heilbrun and Jenny Manus, who already laid down a qualifying time, dropped their time even more to 11:47.56 in Mitchell. The L-FL foursome remains the only 3200-meter relay team to surpass the prequalifying time for the 1A girls.
