Speech pathologist has roots in Goshen County

Posted

STANSBURY, Utah – Madi Haun grew up in Goshen County, Wyoming just like lots of other little girls. She had a loving family and enjoyed her classes at school. At least, like most children, she mostly enjoyed her classes.

Haun graduated from the University of Wyoming in Cheyenne with a master’s degree in speech pathology and is now working as a speech pathologist at Old Mill Elementary in Stansbury Park, Utah. She graduated with her Master’s in May 2021.

Growing up, Haun had many career inspirations to look to. She had aunts in the healthcare field, a sister studying speech pathology and a cousin who benefited from other professional speech pathologists.

“[My cousin] has apraxia speech, which is kind of just where his brain doesn’t let his mouth move. There’s a disconnect between his brain and his muscles [in his mouth] that kind of makes it hard for him to talk so he’s had speech therapy since he was really little,”
Haun said.

From where she is now, Haun is looking at her different options moving forward.

“We get summers off [at the school], which is really nice. I thought about maybe [working] at the hospitals as a speech therapist just to kind of see what it’s like and get some more money,” Haun said.

Haun would like to recognize fellow classmates Brock Youtz from Torrington and Erin Buchanan from Yoder. Both Youtz and Buchanan are recent graduates working in Cheyenne.
