Southeast VB wins thriller

YODER – After falling behind 2-1 after the first three sets Friday against Pine Bluffs, the Southeast Lady Cyclones rattled off two-straight sets to win the five-set match on Homecoming.
The Lady Cyclones rushed out to a 4-0 lead in the first set, but the Lady Hornets continually chipped away at the lead. Southeast’s final lead of the set came at 9-8, before Pine Bluffs starting piling on the points. The visitors ended the first set with a 25-15 win.
Southeast kept things close in the second set. The largest lead by either team was four points. Pine Bluffs led 12-8, forcing a Lady Cyclones timeout. Coming out of the timeout, Southeast started stringing more points together. After being tied at 21, the home team scored four points in a row to win the set, 25-21.
Like the first set, Southeast jumped out to a 4-0 lead, but Pine Bluffs quickly tied things up at 5. The Lady Cyclones built another lead at 14-12 and 18-16. The Lady Hornets called a timeout with the game at 18-16 and took control, scoring seven points in a row and finishing out the set, 25-19.
With their backs against the wall, Southeast rattled off two sets to pick up the match win. They closed out the fourth set, 25-19. In the fifth set, the Lady Cyclones put on a commanding performance, sealing the win, 15-4.

Hailey Anderson had a well-rounded game, recording 13 kills and four blocks at the net, while adding 11 digs and an ace. Morgan Ekwall was just behind Anderson in blocks, with three. Kylie Carson was second on the team in kills, with four, while Whitney Foos and Ellie Schmitt each added three. Seven different Lady Cyclones recorded at least one kill in the win.
In the back line, Foos led the way in digs, with 13, with Anderson and Schmitt each kicking in 11. Schmitt topped the depth chart in assists, with nine.

Southeast 3, Cheyenne Central Sophomores 0
The Lady Cyclones defended their home floor Thursday against the Cheyenne Central sophomore team. Southeast was tested in the first set, but pulled out the 25-23 win, before winning the next two sets 25-14 and 25-12.
Southeast amassed 12 aces in the win, with Schmitt and Kelci Lovercheck each accounting for three. Foos, Anderson and Murphy all added two aces apiece to the team’s total.
In the kills department, Anderson racked up 16 to go along with her nine digs and two blocks. Schmitt contributed another six kills, while leading the Lady Cyclones in assists, with 12. Kassidy McClun accounted for the other five assists and chipped in five digs. Foos was second on the team in digs, with seven.
The Lady Cyclones return to the court Friday and Saturday for the Big Horn Invitational.
