Southeast track and field gets six wins at T-Town Qualifier

TORRINGTON – The Southeast High School track and field team were scheduled to compete at the annual Dennis Zowada Invite on Saturday, but due to the weather forecast, the meet was canceled. As a result, the Cyclones helped Torrington and Lingle-Fort Laramie track teams host the T-Town Qualifier on Friday.

The two Southeast teams picked up a combined six individual wins.

The Lady Cyclones got the day started with two field event wins courtesy of Shelby Ekwall and Angie Logsdon.

Ekwall won shot put with a throw of 39 feet, 6 inches beating out teammate Harper Boche who finished second at 37-6. Brenna Herring was ninth at 30-8. Boche placed seventh in discus at 95-10, while Herring was ninth at 93-10.

Meanwhile, in pole vault, Logsdon picked up the win, clearing 8-6.

The 4x800-meter relay team of Logsdon, Kylee Llewellyn, Baylie Booth and Tylar Stoddard scored the Lady Cyclones’ lone win of the day in the track events.

Stoddard also finished second in triple jump with a leap of 30-3.75, while Logsdon finished fourth at 29-6 and Grace Desmond sixth at 29-2.

In other running events, Sasha Haines finished fourth in the 400-meter dash, while Taylor Hanson was sixth in the 800-meter run.

The 4x100-meter relay team of Logsdon, Stoddard, Booth and Haines finished fourth in 56.62 seconds, while the 4x400 team of Stoddard, Desmond, Booth and Haines placed fifth in 4 minutes, 46.54 seconds. The sprint medley relay team of Haines, Booth, Desmond and Kailey Porter also finished fifth at 5:40.85.

The Lady Cyclones finished fifth with 77 points. Glenrock won the team title with 137.5 points, while Torrington was second with 115. Pine Bluffs was third with 91.

In the boys’ division, the Cyclones picked up three wins on the day.

Ryan Clapper won the 200-meter dash, while the 4x400 team of Wyatt Campbell, Grant Logsdon, Austin Short and Clapper capped off the T-Town Qualifier with a victory. In field events, Grant Logsdon picked up the lone team’s win in pole vault, clearing 11-6, while Kirk Kay was sixth at 9-6.

A time of 22.80 seconds won the 200 for Clapper, while he also finished second in the 100-meter dash. Campbell finished third. Campbell also placed fourth in the 200-meter dash

In the 400-meter dash, Wyatt Gladson led a Cyclone trio with a fifth-place finish in 1:00.05. Matthew Chapman was seventh in 1:00.61, while Cole Sauer was eighth at 1:01.34.

In other field events, Dawson Mullock finished sixth in high jump at 5-2, while Grant Logsdon finished seventh in triple jump at 35-6. Short was eighth in the triple jump at 35-3.

The Cyclones finished sixth with 66 points. Torrington won the team title with 113.5 points, while Lingle-Fort Laramie was second with 113. Pine Bluffs was third with 110.

Southeast is back in action at the SEWAC Championships on Saturday, May 7 in Pine Bluffs. Action is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
