Southeast tops 9-man preseason rankings

Torrington, Lingle-Fort Laramie receiving votes

TORRINGTON –  The Wyopreps.com Preseason Coaches and Media poll was released over the weekend, and all three area high school football teams are making their presence felt.

The Southeast Cyclones top the 1A 9-man division, receiving 10 of the 16 possible first-place votes. Rocky Mountain and Niobrara County each received two, while Shoshoni and Wright picked up one apiece and are two through five, respectively.

No. 1 Southeast opens the regular season at home against No. 4 Shoshoni on Friday, Sept. 4. Kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m.

Also, in the 9-man ranks, Lingle-Fort Laramie earned 30 points – three fourth-place votes and four fifth-place votes.

The Doggers will open the 2020 season at home against Wind River. Kickoff is set for 4:30 p.m.

In the 2A classification, newcomer Torrington received one third-place vote, to go along with three fourth-place votes and four fifth-place votes to be just on the outside looking in.

Defending 2A state champions, Mountain View, tops 2A, while Big Horn is second. Thermopolis and Lovell are third and fourth, respectively, while Upton-Sundance and Cokeville are tied for fifth.

The Blazers open the season Friday night at Gering, Neb. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
