YODER – The Southeast Lady Cyclones dug themselves into a deep hole in two of the three sets on Tuesday evening in a 3-0 (25-23, 25-17, 25-13) loss to the Cheyenne East JV Thunderbirds.
East raced out to a 7-0 lead in the opening set before Southeast managed to get on the scoreboard, forcing Southeast coach Roxanne Jolovich to use a quick timeout.

East raced out to a 7-0 lead in the opening set before Southeast managed to get on the scoreboard, forcing Southeast coach Roxanne Jolovich to use a quick timeout.
The remainder of the set, Southeast chipped away at the deficit.
Kills from sophomore Grace Steinbock and senior Morgan Ekwall drew the Lady Cyclones back within one, but back-to-back attack errors by East handed Southeast a 19-18 advantage.
The Lady Cyclones managed to hold onto the lead until late in the set.
With Southeast leading 23-21, the visiting Lady T-birds used their second timeout and scored the final four points of the set to take a 1-0 lead in the match.
In the second set, Southeast grabbed an early 4-2 advantage, pushing the lead to 10-5 following a service ace from sophomore Jordan Stoddard.
From that point forward, Cheyenne East outscored Southeast, 20-7 to push the match score to 2-0.
In the third set, the Thunderbirds raced out to a 7-1 lead and cruised to the 12-point set win to close out the sweep.
Ekwall led the Lady Cyclones with nine digs and six kills, while junior Clara Petersen added three kills. Steinbock added three digs and dished out two assists.
The Lady Cyclones (6-6) travel to Pine Bluffs on Friday, Sept. 20 for a 4 p.m. contest against the Lady Hornets (12-2).
