YODER – A staff member at Southeast Schools tested positive for COVID-19, according to a notification sent to Goshen County School District No. 1 families and staff on Monday.
This is the first case reported at Southeast and the third within GCSD.
According to the notification, public health is conducting contact tracing.
Superintendent Ryan Kramer said due to the small number of staff at Southeast Schools and a desire to maintain privacy, he is “unable to say whether it is a teacher.”
In the event of a teacher testing positive, Kramer said the entire class would not have to quarantine, only students and staff who spent more than 15 minutes within six feet of the individual.
If a teacher tests positive and is up for it, they will be able to teach remotely, he said.
“We do have some teachers absent and some of them are able to teach remotely,” Kramer said.
Kramer said he has not been told whether the individual was symptomatic or asymptomatic.
Parents are reminded to screen their children for symptoms before school.
