Southeast rolls to sweep of Lady Tigers

YODER – The Southeast High School volleyball team swept the Niobrara County High School Lady Tigers on Saturday afternoon in Yoder.

The visitors grabbed an early 6-4 lead in the first set, but the remainder of the match belonged to the Lady Cyclones in the 3-0 (25-11, 25-11, 25-15) victory.

A serving error by the NCHS and an ace by junior Sydney Anderson tied the match at six apiece, and on the ensuing point, senior Jordan Stoddard slammed one of her team-high nine kills to the ground to put Southeast in front.

Southeast outscored Niobrara County 18-5 over the remainder of the set to take a 1-0 lead.

In the second set, the Lady Cyclones kept right on rolling.

A Lady Tiger attack error and a four-hit possession by NCHS gave Southeast a quick 2-0 lead.

Southeast sophomore Baylie Booth served up two aces and a kill by senior Grace Desmond, allowed the Lady Cyclones to score the first six points of the set.

Niobrara County cut the deficit to as few as 8-4 but another Stoddard kill allowed Southeast to begin to pull away for another 14-point set victory.

In the third set, Stoddard and junior Morgan Ekwall tallied kills to start the set, and Southeast never trailed, completing the sweep.

In addition to the nine kills from Stoddard, she also led the team with 11 digs, to go along with one ace. Desmond added eight kills, four digs and two aces, while Ekwall had six kills and two aces. Booth dished out 27 assists and tallied three aces. Sophomore Sasha Haines had eight digs and three kills.

The Lady Cyclones are back in action Friday at home against Pine Bluffs for Homecoming. Action is scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m.
