Southeast Lady Cyclones split conference match ups

YODER – The Southeast Lady Cyclones split their weekend games against two conference foes, falling to Lusk Friday, 47-34, and beating Burns Saturday, 44-29.

Lusk 47, Southeast 34
The Lady Cyclones got off to a slow start against Lusk Friday and could not recover. They faced a 14-7 deficit after the first quarter, before outscoring the Lady Tigers 12-7 in the second quarter to go into halftime down 21-19.
In the second half, Southeast mustered 15 points between the third and fourth quarters. The Lady Tigers poured in 13 points in each of the final two quarters to cruise to the win.

Emily Buchanan’s 12 points led Southeast. She added seven rebounds and a team-high five steals to her stat sheet. Hailey Anderson was the next top-scorer for the Lady Cyclones, racking up eight points. She led Southeast in boards, with 12. Four of Anderson’s rebounds came on the offensive end of the floor.
The Lady Cyclones went to the charity stripe 20 times, knocking down 11 shots. They sent Lusk to the line 18 times and the Lady Tigers hit 11 free throws.

Southeast 44, Burns 29
Southeast took an 11-7 lead after the first quarter against Burns at home, limiting the Lady Broncs to four points in the second quarter while putting up eight of their own. The Lady Cyclones led at halftime 19-11.
In the third frame, Southeast racked up 15 points, 10 points more than Burns. The Lady Broncs outscored the Lady Cyclones in the fourth quarter, 13-10, but it was too late for Burns to complete the comeback.
For the second game in as many days, Buchanan was the top-scorer. She racked up 21 points against the Lady Broncs to go along with team-highs in assists and steals – four in each category. Anderson turned in eight points Saturday and she topped the stat sheet in rebounds, with 15. Ellie Schmitt added 10 rebounds, with eight on offense, and Kaci Schmick accounted for nine.
With only two games remaining in the regular season, Southeast is 14-6 and 3-3 in the conference. To close out the regular season, the Lady Cyclones host 2A’s top-ranked Pine Bluffs Friday at 4:30 p.m. and play Glenrock on the road Saturday at 5:30 p.m.
