Southeast girls complete season sweep of LFL

TORRINGTON – The Southeast Lady Cyclones outscored the Lingle-Fort Laramie Lady Doggers 28-18 in the second half on the way to their third win of the season over their cross-county rivals at Eastern Wyoming College on Thursday.
Both teams got off to a slow start, as the score was tied at 7 after the first frame. At halftime, Southeast held a 15-13 lead.
Coming out of the break, the Lady Doggers were held to only six points for the second-straight quarter, while the Lady Cyclones poured in 11 points. The fourth quarter saw a lot of scoring, with Southeast racking up 17 and LFL putting up 12.
Southeast’s Emily Buchanan was the team’s leading scorer, with 13 points. She also had eight rebounds and a team-high six steals.
LFL’s Makenna Greenwald also poured in 13 points on 5-of-11 shooting. She also knocked down 3-of-4 from the charity stripe. The senior added 11 rebounds, three assists and four steals to her stat line.
For the Lady Cyclones, Kaci Schmick was the second-leading scorer, with 12 points. Hailey Anderson also had a big day, coming down with a team-high nine rebounds and four assists. Southeast shot 13-of-22 from the free-throw line.
Kaylynn Jefferson was the second Lady Dogger in double-figures, with 10 points. She hit LFL’s only two three-pointers and had a rebound and assist. Savanna Mirich turned in eight points and four boards for the Lady Doggers. Georgia Wollert recorded three rebounds, three assists and two steals on the night.

The win by the Lady Cyclones was their third of the season over LFL, with the first coming on Dec. 17 (48-43) and the second on Jan. 14 (34-32).

Lusk 48, LFL 42
In other season action, the Lady Doggers fell to Lusk on the road on Friday, 48-42.
Greenwald, with 15 points, and Jade Cooper, with 14 points, turned in big scoring days. Greenwald shot 7-of-19 from the field. Cooper had six points from behind the arc and another six from the charity stripe. Greenwald led the Lady Doggers in boards, with 13. Cooper had a rebound and the two combined for two assists and a steal.
Jefferson and Mirich both had five points and four rebounds. Jefferson led LFL with two assists and tied Wollert for the lead in steals, with two.
The two losses drop the Lady Doggers to 7-9 on the season. They only have four games remaining in the regular season. LFL hits the road for Kaycee Friday at 5:30 p.m., before hosting Rock River Saturday at 2:30 p.m.

Pine Bluffs 56, Southeast 38
The Lady Cyclones had another slow start, as they put up only 11 points through the first two quarters on the road against 2A’s top-ranked Pine Bluffs on Friday. After facing a 29-11 deficit at the break, Southeast scored six points in the third quarter compared to the Lady Hornets’ 12. The Lady Cyclones outscored Pine Bluffs in the fourth quarter, 21-15, but it was not enough to get the win, as they lost 56-38.
Anderson was the leading scorer for the Lady Cyclones on Friday, with 13 points. Buchanan turned in nine points on the night to go along with team-highs in assists (3) and steals (2).
On the boards, Schmick and Ellie Schmitt each came down with eight rebounds. Eleven of their rebounds came on the offensive end of the floor.
As a team, Southeast shot 8-of-12 from the line. They send Pine Bluffs to the line only nine times, where the Lady Hornets went 6-of-9.
Last week’s games put the Lady Cyclones at 13-5 this season, with a 2-2 record in the conference. They have four games remaining before the regional tournament, starting with an away game on Friday against Lusk at 5:30 p.m. Southeast also hosts Burns Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
