Southeast falls to Mitchell

MITCHELL, Neb. – The Southeast High School boys’ basketball team fell to the Mitchell (Neb.) Tigers 83-60 on Tuesday evening in Mitchell.

The Tigers raced out to a 24-16 lead, extending it to 41-24 at half.

Coming out of the break, the Class 2A No. 3-ranked Cyclones cut into the Mitchell lead early in the third.

Southeast trimmed the deficit to as few as 11 in the frame, outscoring the Tigers, 25-17, but in the final quarter, Mitchell put a halt to the comeback pouring on an additional 25 points, pushing the Tiger lead back to 20 in the closing moments of the contest.

Southeast shot 46 percent and had eight players crack the scoring column.

Senior Patrick Swank led Southeast with 15 points, while junior Hayden Anderson added 13. Junior Bodie Herring tossed in nine points, with all coming from beyond the 3-point arc.

The loss drops the Cyclones to 7-3 on the season.

Southeast returns to the court on Tuesday, Jan. 14 in Cheyenne against Cheyenne East JV. Tipoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
