CASPER – Eight total Southeast Cyclones combined to bring home three state titles at the 2A State Meet Thursday through Saturday in Casper.
Chase Lovercheck continued his solid season, picking up a state title in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:57.93. His time was 0.05 seconds faster than the second-place finisher (Porter Nichols, Lovell). Lovercheck also reached the finals of the 400-meter dash, finishing second behind Nichols with a time of 50.79 seconds.
Lovercheck was also the anchor on Southeast’s state champion 1600-meter relay team. Brady Fullmer, Jacob Schmitt and Connor Humphrey joined Lovercheck and turned in a time of 3:30.75.
The Lady Cyclones’ 3200-meter relay team of Emily Buchanan, Kelci Lovercheck, Ellie Schmitt and Jaiden Hopkins took first with a time of 10:56.30. Their time was more than 10 seconds faster than the second-place team.
Other than Chase Lovercheck, Jacob Cushman had the best individual finish for the Cyclones, snagging third in the 100-meter dash, clocking a time of 11.56 seconds. Porter Ross also reached the finals of the 100-meter dash, turning in a time of 11.79 seconds to finish seventh.

In the 200-meter dash, Ross and Lovercheck finished back-to-back, taking 14th and 15th with times of 24.90 seconds and 24.99 seconds. Fullmer joined Lovercheck in the 400, sliding to 11th (55.77 seconds).
Patrick Swank took 16th in the 3200-meter run, recording a time of 13:00.86.
The 400-meter relay team of Cushman, Ross, Fullmer and Humphrey earned silver with a time of 45.52 seconds.
Ross had the best finish among the competitors in the field for Southeast, snagging 10th in the long jump (18 feet, 7.25 inches). Chance Werner was not far behind, putting forth a 17-foot, 9.25-inch effort to take 15th. Werner finished 13th in the triple jump, clearing 37 feet, 0.75 inches. Quinton Steinbock cleared 5 feet, 6 inches in the high jump, earning 15th.
Ellie Schmitt had the best individual finish among the Lady Cyclones, taking sixth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:35.16. In the longer distance events, Jaiden Hopkins took 12th in the 1600-meter run (6:13.79) and 10th in the 3200-meter run (14:41.85). Kelci Lovercheck earned 13th in the mile, posting a time of 6:15.67.
Schmitt, Buchanan, Lovercheck and Hailey Anderson combined for a time of 4:24.42 in the 1600-meter relay, taking seventh.
Candee Coxbill was the only Southeast girl to compete in any field event, capturing 11th in the discus with a throw of 95 feet, 9 inches.
Because the Cyclones had two winning relays, eight Southeast tracksters earned all-state honors. Hopkins, Buchanan, Ellie Schmitt and Kelci Lovercheck, a two-time all-state honoree, along with Fullmer, Humphrey, Jacob Schmitt and Chase Lovercheck earned all-state distinctions. Lovercheck was also named all-state for the second-straight year for his efforts in the 800-meter run and 400-meter dash, as the top-two finishers in each individual event earn all-state.
As a team, the Southeast boys finished sixth in 2A after racking up 44 team points. The Lady Cyclones amassed 15 points, earning 15th in the class. Lovell won the boys’ team title in 2A (103 points), while Big Horn won the girls’ title (79.5 points).
