YODER – Southeast had a 1-0 lead before the first second of the game came off the clock thanks to a pregame technical foul on Pine Bluffs for dunking.
Unfortunately for the Cyclones, it was the only time they led in the game.
Pine Bluffs poured on 36 first quarter points, including draining eight 3-pointers.
By halftime, the Hornets pushed the lead to 51-13. With 6:11 left in the third, the visitors’ lead reached 56-13, kicking in the running clock rule for the remainder of the game.
It wasn’t until midway through the fourth quarter when Pine Bluffs finally pulled out its starters.
Freshman Ayden Desmond led the team with eight points, while junior Cooper Larkin added five.
The next day, the Cyclones traveled to Lusk to face the Niobrara County Tigers, and for the second time this season, the game’s outcome was less than three points.
Back on Jan. 22, Southeast survived the Tigers in a 46-43 home victory.
This time the Cyclones went on the road and picked up a 46-44 win.
Junior Kyler Clark led Southeast with 19 points on 7-of-10 shooting, while Desmond had a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Senior Kirk Kay grabbed a team-high 12 rebounds.
Southeast (8-11) wraps up the regular season at home on Saturday, Feb. 19 against Glenrock (3-14). Tipoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.
