In a way to get more time on the track after last weekend’s action was canceled, the Southeast Cyclones took the track in Wheatland on Tuesday, with the boys taking fifth (51 points) and the girls finishing seventh (48 points).

Southeast boys fifth, girls seventh in Wheatland

WHEATLAND – In a way to get more time on the track after last weekend’s action was canceled, the Southeast Cyclones took the track in Wheatland on Tuesday, with the boys taking fifth (51 points) and the girls finishing seventh (48 points).
In a closely contested boys team title race, Glenrock took the crown with 79 points, with Torrington falling just short, with 76 points. Douglas narrowly edged out Southeast for the fourth spot, racking up 55 points.
In the 100-meter dash, Porter Ross captured the silver, turning in a time of 11.59 seconds. Brady Fullmer took 11th (11.99) and Connor Humphrey slid into 15th (12.13). Luke Haas (32nd, 12.77) was the final 100-meter sprinter for the Cyclones. Ross was the only Southeast boy to compete in the 200-meter dash, taking seventh with a time of 24.01 seconds.
Fullmer had the best finish in the 400-meter dash, taking third with a time of 55.08 seconds. Jacob Schmitt was one-tenth of a second behind Fullmer, finishing fourth with a time of 55.18 seconds. D.J. Homer took 17th in the 400 (1:02.30).
In the distance events, Patrick Swank finished sixth in the 3200-meter run, turning in a time of 11:54.83. Andrew Cox slid into 14th in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:48.17.
Ross not only had a solid day on the track, but proved himself in the field events. He took fourth in the long jump, clearing 18 feet, 8 inches. Chance Werner took eighth in the same event, jumping 17 feet. Greg Logsdon (17th, 15 feet, 3.5 inches) and Homer (22nd, 14 feet) rounded out the long jumpers.

Werner stood atop the Cyclones in the triple jump, taking fifth with a 36-foot, 3-inch effort. Homer and Logsdon took 14th and 15th in the triple jump. Quinton Steinbock cleared 5 feet, 8 inches in the high jump to take third.
The 400-meter relay team for Southeast took second with a time of 45.70 seconds. The 1600-meter relay team finished third (3:51.42) and the 3200-meter team slid into seventh (9:50.57).
The Lady Cyclones snagged seventh place as a team, racking up 48 points. Lusk squeaked out sixth with 50.5 points. Pine Bluffs captured the girls’ team title with 100 points.
Kelci Lovercheck had the best finish among the Lady Cyclones on the track, taking second in the mile with a time of 6:08.60. Jaiden Hopkins was not far behind, clocking a time of 6:13.34 to capture fourth.
Hailey Anderson took fourth in the 400-meter dash, turning in a time of 1:07.44, which narrowly edged out Ellie Schmitt, who took fifth (1:07.60). In the 200-meter dash, Anderson finished in 29.57 seconds, taking 10th. Emily Buchanan took 12th with a time of 30.23.
Kendall Haas represented the Lady Cyclones in both hurdle events, taking fifth in the 100-meter hurdles (18.27 seconds) and eighth in the 300-meter hurdles (56.26 seconds). She also finished ninth in the long jump, clearing 13 feet, 9.5 inches.
In the triple jump, Emily Buchanan cleared 29 feet, 8 inches, earning her fourth. Schmitt got over 4 feet, 6 inches in the long jump to take sixth.
Rounding out the field events, Candee Coxbill finished 11th in the discus with a throw of 84 feet, 3 inches. Kylie Carson’s throw was three inches shorter, putting her 12th. Morgan Ekwall earned 15th with a throw of 80 feet, 8 inches.
The distance relay for the Lady Cyclones was the best relay, finishing second. In the 1600-meter relay, Southeast finished fourth with a time of 4:42.79.
The Cyclones return to competitive action Saturday for the SEWAC Invitational in Pine Bluffs.
