WHEATLAND – In a way to get more time on the track after last weekend’s action was canceled, the Southeast Cyclones took the track in Wheatland on Tuesday, with the boys taking fifth (51 points) and the girls finishing seventh (48 points).
In a closely contested boys team title race, Glenrock took the crown with 79 points, with Torrington falling just short, with 76 points. Douglas narrowly edged out Southeast for the fourth spot, racking up 55 points.
In the 100-meter dash, Porter Ross captured the silver, turning in a time of 11.59 seconds. Brady Fullmer took 11th (11.99) and Connor Humphrey slid into 15th (12.13). Luke Haas (32nd, 12.77) was the final 100-meter sprinter for the Cyclones. Ross was the only Southeast boy to compete in the 200-meter dash, taking seventh with a time of 24.01 seconds.
Fullmer had the best finish in the 400-meter dash, taking third with a time of 55.08 seconds. Jacob Schmitt was one-tenth of a second behind Fullmer, finishing fourth with a time of 55.18 seconds. D.J. Homer took 17th in the 400 (1:02.30).
In the distance events, Patrick Swank finished sixth in the 3200-meter run, turning in a time of 11:54.83. Andrew Cox slid into 14th in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:48.17.
Ross not only had a solid day on the track, but proved himself in the field events. He took fourth in the long jump, clearing 18 feet, 8 inches. Chance Werner took eighth in the same event, jumping 17 feet. Greg Logsdon (17th, 15 feet, 3.5 inches) and Homer (22nd, 14 feet) rounded out the long jumpers.
