Eight Southeast Cyclone track and field athletes placed in the top-eight at the Bayard CD Invitational on Thursday, propelling the boys to a fifth-place finish, while the girls finished 14th.

Southeast boys fifth, girls 14th in Bayard

BAYARD, Neb. – Eight Southeast Cyclone track and field athletes placed in the top-eight at the Bayard CD Invitational on Thursday, propelling the boys to a fifth-place finish, while the girls finished 14th.

Starting with the boys, Chase Lovercheck had a solid day, picking up the lone individual title for the Cyclones with a time of 51.89 seconds in the 400-meter dash. He edged fellow county runner, Dogger Landen Fuller, who finished second with a time of 52.35 seconds. Lovercheck also secured the silver in the 800, posting a time of 2:02.63.

Brady Fullmer finished third in the 200, clocking a time of 25.65 seconds. Kaden Malm rounded out the individual placers for the Cyclone boys, finishing sixth in the 100 with a time of 12.00 seconds.

Lovercheck and Fullmer linked up with Hayden Anderson and Brant Fullmer for the 1600-meter relay. The Southeast foursome stopped the clock at 3:46.04, which earned them the top spot in the event.

The Cyclones totaled 35 team points to finish fifth at the end of the day. Southeast was sandwiched between Gordon-Rushville’s 36 points and Kimball’s 34 points. Pine Bluffs won the day with 97 team points, while Bridgeport (82) and Bayard (51) rounded out the top-three teams.

Girls

Hailey Anderson had the best day for the Lady Cyclones, earning second in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:05.92. She was also on the third-place team in the 3200-meter relay, joined by Jaiden Hopkins, Kelci Lovercheck and Ellie Schmitt. The Southeast team finished in 11:25.27.

Morgan Ekwall rounded out the Lady Cyclones to place. She finished sixth in the shot put with a 32-foot, 2-inch effort.

Southeast’s girls finished the day with nine team points, finishing 14th, just ahead of Hay Springs’ eight points. Pine Bluffs won the girls’ team title with 75 points. Bridgeport took second with 59 points, while Bayard rounded out the top-three, recording 53 points.

The Cyclone girls and boys return to action Thursday at the Mitchell, Neb. Invitational.
