YODER – The preseason WyoPreps.com Basketball Coaches and Media Poll was released Monday morning, and both Southeast High School teams find themselves in the top five.
The Southeast boys’ team come in at No. 3.
The Cyclones picked up three first-place votes, two second-place votes, one third, three fourths and two fifths.
Topping the Class 1A rankings is defending state champion Saratoga and runner-up Farson-Eden at No. 1 and No. 2, respectively. Saratoga earned eight first-place votes, while Farson-Eden had one.
Upton comes in at No. 4, while Encampment is No. 5.
Southeast opens the season at home against Class 3A No. 5-ranked Wheatland on Friday as part of the Burns Winter Classic. Tipoff is schedule for 7 p.m.
In the 1A girls’ rankings, Southeast comes in at No. 4. The Lady Cyclones had two second-place votes and three third place votes.
Defending state champion Cokeville Panthers open the season as the unanimous No. 1 with 10 first-place votes. Upton was second, while Kaycee was third. Meeteetse rounds out the top five.
The Lady Cyclones also open the season against Class 3A Wheatland. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
In Class 3A, both Torrington High School basketball teams are receiving votes.
The Lady Blazers tallied two third, two fourth and two fifth-place votes.
Douglas was the unanimous No. 1, picking up all 20 first-place votes. Mountain View was second, while Lyman, Worland and Lander Valley make up third through fifth, respectively.
The Lady Blazers open the season in Burns against Thermopolis as part of the Burns Winter Classic. Tipoff is set for noon.
In the 3A boys’ rankings, Torrington recorded three fourth-place votes and one fifth-place vote.
Worland got 14 of the possible 17 first-place votes as the preseason favorites. Lander Valley was second, receiving the other three first-place votes. Rawlins was third, while Powell was fourth. Wheatland rounded out the top five.
