YODER – The Southeast High School wrestling team ended the day on a winning note, finishing 11th at the Southeast Duals on Saturday.

The Cyclones went 2-3 on the day with wins over Minatare, Neb., and Morrill, Neb.

In pool action, Southeast opened the day with a 45-22 loss to Bridgeport, Neb.

Tate Carson (195 pounds), Will Baker (285), Grant Logsdon (106) and Wyatt Mackey (138) scored wins in the loss.

Southeast rebounded in the second round with a 48-12 victory over Minatare.

Both Minatare wins were the result of forfeits. They scored wins at 152 and 160 pounds, but at 195 pounds, Carson scored the Cyclone’s first points of the dual.

Baker, Kaden Brothwell (120) and Ryan Clapper (145) picked up fall wins, while Logsdon, Brock Blevins (113), Emmett Mackey (126) and Wyatt Mackey recorded forfeit wins.

In the final round of pool action, Southeast fell to Alliance, Neb., 54-21.

After two forfeit losses to begin the match, Carson got the Cyclones on the scoreboard with a 3-2 decision. Baker, Logsdon and Blevins backed it up with three straight pins before Alliance finished the dual off with six straight victories.

In the opening round of the consolation bracket, the Cyclones were paired up against cross-county rival Lingle-Fort Laramie.

The teams battled to a 36-36 tie with the Doggers picking up the tie-breaker, which went to the team with the fewest forfeits.

Either team was open at 170 and 182 pounds, but it was Carson who scored the first points of the dual with a pin over L-FL’s Landon Norris.

The teams traded wins for the remainder of the match.

Baker, Blevins, Brothwell, Wyatt Mackey and Clapper scored wins for Southeast, while Jessy Valentine (220 pounds), Joe Costello (106), Ty Prall (126), Gage Gibson (138), Corey Ducheneaux (152) and Zane Rising (160) picked up wins for the Doggers.

Southeast had three forfeits to L-FL’s zero, resulting in a win for the Doggers.

The loss dropped the Cyclones to the 11th-place match where Southeast ended the day with a 58-18 win over the Morrill Lions.

Baker and Wyatt Mackey won the only matches of the dual for the Cyclones. Both scored fall wins, while Carson, Logsdon, Blevins, Brothwell, Silas Boyd (132 pounds) and Clapper recorded forfeit wins.

Southeast travels to the Hanna-Elk Mountain Tournament on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 14-15.
