TORRINGTON – The Eastern Wyoming College Lady Lancers hosted Sheridan College on Saturday for Sophomore Night, and several sophomores across the board helped out in the win.

Although the end result was a Lady Lancer win, it didn’t come easy. EWC picked up a win in the first set, 25-23, followed by a back-and-forth second set. Sheridan pushed the Lady Lancers to extra points, but the home team secured the win, 30-28. In the third set, EWC sealed the victory with a 25-21 win.

In the back line, sophomores Helena Khouri and Alex Simmerman led the way in digs. Khouri finished with 17 and Simmerman added 11. Fellow sophomore Kylee Tresch topped the stat sheet in assists, with 28.

Lissette Lefforge made contributions across the court, amassing two aces, nine kills and two blocks, all of which at least shared the team-lead. Sophomore Precious Williams tied Lefforge in the kill department, with nine, while Dawson Sharman kicked in seven of her own. Also at the net, Shaniah Freeseman accounted for two blocks.

Casper College 3, EWC 0

The Lady Lancers hosted Casper College on Friday, falling in three sets to the Lady Thunderbirds.

EWC suffered a loss in the first set, 25-21, before falling by the widest margin of the match in the second set, 25-17. The Lady Lancers did not go down without a fight in the third set, pushing Casper to extra points but eventually losing, 26-24.

Tresch recorded the only ace of the contest for the Lady Lancers. She also accounted for eight digs and a team-high 19 assists. Also in the dig department, Khouri led the way with 14 digs, while Simmerman had 12.

Freeseman was a wall at the net, recording four blocks, followed by Lefforge’s two. Freeseman was also big in the kill department, tying Williams for the team lead with seven. Giovanna Jordao finished with five kills against Casper.

After the weekend, EWC sits with a 5-25 record. They are 3-15 against Region IX opponents and 3-9 against division opponents. The Lady Lancers hit the road to play McCook, Neb. Community College Tuesday after the press deadline.
