GOSHEN COUNTY – With a budget in the black since July 1, Fair Manager Stephanie Lofink gave the Goshen County Commissioners a largely positive report at their regular meeting Tuesday morning.
Lofink said her office is currently working to distribute an updated brochure regarding investment opportunities at the fairgrounds.
“We changed mostly the appearance – the texture of the paper, we went from a six-page packet to … condensed it to this version,” she said. The brochure, along with a membership renewal form and seasonal greeting, is mailed out to various potential partners, including previous members, businesses, individuals and organizations in the valley.
“Just any little extra bit we can get is great,” Lofink said, adding the fairgrounds also plans to utilize Goshen County Economic Development Corporation’s social-media services.
Other future endeavors include encouraging individual communities to maintain a bigger presence at the fair – such as hosting a hospitality night or event, as well as expanding online scheduling and installing a security system.
“We’re working on lots of positive things,” Lofink said. “We’re holding our own. We’ve been in the black since July 1 … we’re managing … so far, so good.”
In other business:
n The commissioners approved a Homeland Security grant contract between the Wyoming office and Goshen County in the amount of $34,500 at the request of Emergency Manager Shelly Kirchhefer.
n Members also approved retiring Goshen County Treasurer Maxine Mitchell’s final report for the county.
This report reflects the cash position as of close of business on Friday, Dec. 14.
The all-cash total is $6,530,764.42, less $5,306,003.64 reserved for non-county general purposes, for a county general fund cash position of $1,224.760.78. The estimated total after the previous months payables and collections is $1,431,827.24.
“These are the good months … heavy taxes are coming in now,” Mitchell said. “You’re in good shape going into the first of the year.
“On top of that, I want to thank you for allowing me to serve you these last years … I’ve enjoyed the challenge.”
n Later in the morning, the commissioners held a reception to honor outgoing county officials, including Mitchell, Chairman Carl Rupp, Sheriff Jeremy Wardell and Attorney Ken Brown. All received a plaque and were thanked for their service with speeches
and applause.
