TORRINGTON – A pretrial hearing for the man accused in the May 24 death of Guernsey resident Wade Erschabek was postponed Monday following a motion by the defense.
Jamie Snyder, 26, of Fort Laramie was originally scheduled to appear before Goshen County Eighth Circuit Court Judge Randal Arp on Monday. But the hearing was postponed after attorney Jonathan Foreman from the Eighth Judicial District Public Defender’s Office, which is representing Snyder, filed a motion asking that Snyder undergo a psychological evaluation, said Ken Brown, Goshen County Attorney who’s representing the state in the case.
Snyder made his first appearance in Judge Arp’s court on May 25, charged with first-degree murder in the death of Erschabek, 32. In an Affidavit of Probable Cause, Goshen County Sheriff’s investigator Kory Fleenor alleged Snyder pursued, confronted and stabbed Erschabek on May 24 outside a Fort Laramie residence.
The confrontation apparently stemmed from the alleged theft of the title to a pickup from Snyder’s residence sometime prior to the stabbing, Fleenor said in his affidavit. During his initial appearance, Snyder repeatedly claimed he acted in self-defense.
Additionally, Snyder has been transferred to the Niobrara County Jail in Lusk, where he remains in custody without bail, Brown said Monday.
