TORRINGTON – Last year Wyoming Gov. Mat Mead announced his “Shooting Sports Initiatives,” which are intended to support and expand shooting sports in the state.
“Access to shooting sports and shooting ranges increases public participation and benefits our sportsmen and local communities,” Mead said when he announced the initiative. “Participation and investment in the shooting sports is an investment in future generations of sportsmen and sportswomen. It is good for Wyoming.”
Goshen County is home to one of the top gun clubs in the state, with over 400 members and is one of only four clubs with the facilities to host the state trap shoot and could be a vital partner is promoting the initiative.
“There are three phases, or separate initiatives to the governor’s program,” said Ron Miller, treasurer of the First State Bank Shooting Complex. “The first is an open range initiative, meant to increase access to public ranges in the state.
“Unfortunately, I know of only one public shooting range and that is west of Cheyenne. All the other ones in the state that I know of are private.”
