LAGRANGE – Funeral services for Shirley K. Sanders, 84, will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2019, at the Colyer Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Archie Atwell officiating. Burial will follow in the LaGrange Cemetery. 

Shirley died at the Heart Hospital of New Mexico in Albuquerque on Sept. 16, 2019. Memorials may be given in his honor to the LaGrange Fire and Rescue Units. Visitation will be on Monday from 3 to 7 p.m. and the casket will be open briefly following the service. Shirley was born Oct. 23, 1934, in Torrington, the son of Frank and Yola (Craton) Sanders. He grew up and received his education in LaGrange, graduating high school there. He felt called by God to be a farmer and he farmed and ranched in the LaGrange area all his life until shortly before his death. He was a beloved grandfather for Indian families in New Mexico, where he spent a lot of time helping in mission work.

Shirley enjoyed hunting, flying and building or engineering things.

Shirley is survived by two sons Daniel (Sharon) Sanders of Cuba, N.M., and Leroy (Hazel) Sanders of LaGrange; two daughters Martha (Dan) Glick of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Mary (Sam) Rosengreen of Wheatland; his wife Naomi Sanders of Hobe Sound, Fla.; a brother Wayne (Eileen) Sanders of Salem, Ohio; 14 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.
