TORRINGTON – The league which the Torrington Shark swim team competes in during the summer months will not be holding any events this summer due to concerns from COVID-19.
Despite no competitions, Shark coach Ethen Creager is going to still give his squad a chance to continue to improve even though they aren’t in the pool.
“In a sport like this, if you take a year off, you lose a lot of ground,” Creager said. “We are going to at least try to get swimming on people’s minds and hopefully let everyone have the opportunity to at least improve some parts of their swimming even though they can’t do it in the pool.”
They are going to do that through at-home workouts and videos as they look ahead to the summer of 2021 with the hopes the Dale Jones Municipal Pool will open at some point this summer.
“If the pool does end up opening, we may also give swimming workouts if our swimmers want to do that,” Creager said.
The break in the summer season comes at a bad time for the team, as the Sharks have seen growth and improvement over the last couple of summers.
