RIVERTON – The Eastern Wyoming College Lancer rodeo team recently returned from Riverton where they competed in the annual rodeo hosted by Central Wyoming College.
Several members of the EWC team performed well and qualified for the short round held on Sunday.

RIVERTON – The Eastern Wyoming College Lancer rodeo team recently returned from Riverton where they competed in the annual rodeo hosted by Central Wyoming College.
Several members of the EWC team performed well and qualified for the short round held on Sunday.
Freshman Chadron Coffield, Yuma, Colo., continues his quest for a College National Finals qualification with another solid performance in the tie down roping. He split fifth and sixth in the first round, was second in the short round and split second and third in the average. Sophomore teammates Garrett Murphy and Canton Afdahl, both of Torrington, finished fifth and sixth in the average of the tie down roping, respectively.
Afdahl and partner Dalton Wieneke, sophomore, West Point, Neb., placed second in the team roping for the weekend. They placed second in the first round with a time of 6.6 seconds, and third in the short round with a 7.0 second run.
In the steer wrestling, freshman Teigen Marchant, Newcastle, was fifth in the first round, split fifth and sixth in the short round and finish the average in fifth place. Coffield also qualified for the short round of the steer wrestling.
The Lancer men finished eighth with 110 points. The University of Wyoming won the team title with 855 points. Central Wyoming was second with 390.
Karissa Rayhill, sophomore, Martin, S.D., won the first round of the goat tying with a time of 7.5 seconds. She also qualified for the short round of the breakaway roping. Sophomore Brooke Glass, Sidney, Neb, was second in the first round of breakaway roping and finished the weekend sixth in the average.
The Lady Lancers placed fifth with 123.33 points. Gillette College won the event with 375 points, while Casper College was second with 340.
EWC will compete in Lamar, Colo. Oct. 5-7.
