TORRINGTON – The Southeast Cyclones went 2-1 at the 2A East Regional Tournament, reaching the championship game where they lost to Pine Bluffs, but still earned their way into the state tournament.

Southeast 59, Upton 54

The Cyclones overcame a small halftime margin to pick up the first-round win over Upton. The Bulldogs took a 16-15 lead after the first and expanded their lead to 30-28 going in to intermission. Southeast came out hot in the third quarter, pouring in 17 points, while Upton was limited to 17, giving the Cyclones a 45-43 lead. In the final frame, the Cyclones outscored the Bulldogs 14-11 to secure the win.

Brady Fullmer was the top scorer for Southeast, racking up 18 points, including six from the charity stripe. He also had eight rebounds and two steals to his credit.

Kaden Malm contributed 17 points for the Cyclones, including six from behind the arc and seven from the free-throw line, where he was perfect. The senior rounded out his stat line with a rebound, three assists and a team-high four steals. Hayden Anderson rounded out the Cyclones in double-figures, notching 10 points, three rebounds, an assist, a steal and two blocks.

Sterling Werner paced Southeast with 11 rebounds, while chipping in six points, an assist and three blocks before fouling out. Cade Herring and Sawyer Anderson rounded out the scoring, combining for eight points and five rebounds. Brant Fullmer and Bodie Herring combined for six rebounds, five assists and a steal.

Southeast 58, Wright 57 2OT

It took some late-game magic for the Cyclones to pull off the upset over top-ranked Wright. The two teams were tied at nine points after the first frame, before Wright poured in 16 points in the second to take a 25-20 lead. Southeast rallied in the third to trim the Panther lead to one (34-33). Late in the fourth quarter, Hayden Anderson splashed in a deep three to send the game into overtime tied at 41.

All three Cyclone seniors fouled out in the first overtime period, but Southeast still managed to match Wright’s scoring output of 10 points. With the score tied at 51, the two teams went into a second overtime. Brant Fullmer stepped up in the seniors’ absence and banked in a three late in the second overtime to give Southeast the one-point win.

Including his late three in regulation, Hayden Anderson notched 13 points to lead Southeast, while accounting for two rebounds, three steals and a block.

Brady Fullmer and Werner both had double-doubles in the win. Werner had 11 points, 21 rebounds, including seven offensive, an assist and team-highs in steals, with four, and blocks, with two. Fullmer finished the night with 11 points, 10 rebounds, an assist and two steals.

Cade Herring drained a three on his way to nine points, two rebounds and an assist. Malm chipped in seven points, four rebounds, two steals and a team-high five assists. Brant Fullmer added the winning three points, while Bodie Herring and Sawyer Anderson both finished the night with two points apiece. The trio combined for three rebounds, four assists and three steals.

Pine Bluffs 71, Southeast 52

After the late game Friday, Southeast advanced to the east title game, where it played second-ranked Pine Bluffs. The Hornets poured in 14 points in the first quarter, while keeping Southeast to nine. Exploding for 19 points in the second quarter, Pine Bluffs went into halftime up 33-21. The Hornets scored 19 points in both the third and fourth quarters, while Southeast upped its scoring total to 16 points in the third and 15 in the fourth, but it was not enough to get the Cyclones the win.

Brady Fullmer led Southeast with 16 points on 6-of-13 shooting and 4-of-5 shooting from the free-throw line. The senior rounded out his stat line with three rebounds, two assists and a steal. Fellow senior Werner notched 15 points on 6-of-8 shooting, while contributing a steal and team-highs in rebounds, with nine, and assists, with four.

Cade Herring rounded out the scorers in double-figures, knocking down two three-pointers on his way to 10 points, three rebounds and an assist.

Hayden and Sawyer Anderson both had four points in the loss, while combining for six rebounds, three assists, and a steal. Hayden had the team’s only block. Malm knocked down a three to round out the scoring, finishing with a rebound, an assist and two steals.

The Cyclones secured the second seed out of the east for the state tournament. Their first game comes at 12 p.m. at Casper College on Thursday against Rocky Mountain. The Grizzlies come in as the third seed from the west with a 21-3 record.
