SE boys fifth, girls seventh in Lusk

LUSK – The Southeast Cyclone boys placed in 14 events, while the Lady Cyclones found their way into the top-eight nine times Saturday at the Dennis Zowada Invitational in Lusk, with the boys taking fifth and the girls securing seventh.

As a team, the Cyclones had a successful day on the track, spearheaded by Chase Lovercheck, who took first in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:02.63. Hayden Anderson snagged fifth in the event (2:17.75) and Patrick Swank snuck his way into the top-eighth as well, taking eighth with a time of 2:31.04.

Moving to the sprints, Kaden Malm paced Southeast in both the 100 and 200. In the 100, his time of 12.13 seconds earned him fourth and he rose to third for the 200, posting a time of 24.98 seconds. Brady Fullmer also placed in the 100, taking fifth with a time of 12.35 seconds.

Fullmer carried his success to the 400, where he earned third with a time of 53.28 seconds. Brant Fullmer secured sixth in the event, clocking a time of 55.73 seconds.

Moving to the distance events, Swank placed in the 3200 with a time of 12:21.41, earning fourth. Zander Ramirez took fifth in the mile, finishing in 5:42.41.

Southeast had solid days in the relays as well. Lovercheck, Malm and Brady and Brant Fullmer continued their dominant spring in the 1600-meter relay, taking first with a time of 3:41.13. Lovercheck was joined by Sawyer Anderson, Hayden Anderson and Reese Robertson for the 3200-meter relay, taking second with a time of 9:36.75. In the 400-meter relay, Malm, Robertson and Brady and Brant Fullmer finished in 48.32 seconds to take fourth.

Greg Logsdon was the lone Cyclone to place in the field events. He cleared 36 feet, 4.25 inches in the triple jump to take eighth.

The Southeast boys notched 72 points on the day to finish fifth. Gordon-Rushville won the boys team standings with 122.5 points, followed closely by host Lusk, with 113.5 points, and Glenrock, with 103.5 points.

Girls

The Lady Cyclones had a solid day in the throwing events. Kylie Carson took first in discus with a throw of 113 feet, 1 inch. Candee Coxbill took second in the event with a 109-foot, 4-inch effort. Morgan Ekwall secured second in the shot put with a throw of 35 feet, 6.5 inches.

Southeast’s throwers formed a 400-meter relay team. Carson, Coxbill, Ekwall and Carly Keller linked up for the event, taking fifth with a time of 57.60 seconds.

Hailey Anderson joined Carson as Lady Cyclones to finish first. She secured the top spot in the 400 with a time of 1:03.51. Ellie Schmitt was not far behind in the event, taking fourth after clocking a time of 1:10.80. Schmitt stepped up to second in the 800 with a time of 2:43.83 and she took sixth in the high jump with a 4-foot, 6-inch effort.

Joycelynn Hottell rounded out the placers for the Lady Cyclones, clocking a time of 14.89 seconds in the 100, earning sixth.

The Lady Cyclones took seventh in the girls team standings with 54 points. Pine Bluffs walked away with the top spot with 127 points. Burns, with 118.5 points, and Lusk, with 106 points, rounded out the top-three.

The Cyclones return to action Saturday for the SEWAC Invitational in Glenrock.
