CASPER – Members of the Lingle-Fort Laramie track and field team broke four school records at the Wyoming State Track and Field Championships last weekend.

The Dogger boys broke three, while the Lady Doggers broke one.

Louden Bremer bettered his own 300-meter hurdle school record time, while the 4x800 relay team of Myles Wilson, Nolan Spears, Brayden Posten and Brody Roberts and the sprint medley relay team of Spears, Brady Cook, Bremer and Roberts also set new fast times. The Lady Doggers – Grace Gibson, Kenzie Wilkins, Emma Walker, Hadley Wilkins – broke the schools’ sprint medley relay team of record.

The Doggers finished fourth in Class 2A with 79 points, while the Lady Doggers were third with 94 points. Big Horn won the boys’ state championship with 102 points, while Burns was second with 99.5 points. Big Piney won the girls’ state title with 127 points, while Kemmerer was second with 116 points.

“I felt we had solid performances from both teams. We were pleased to bring home two team trophies, even after moving up to Class 2A this season,” coach Mike Lashley said. “Had we not had a couple injuries and some bad luck, our team scores would have been even higher. Not only did we break four school records, but we saw some other very good efforts that resulted in top five all-time LFL history performances.”

In the girls’ division, the Lady Doggers picked up two wins on the weekend.

Both wins came in the relay action. The 4x400 team of Walker, Jada Kaufman, Kenzie Wilkins and Maddy Saul capped off the weekend with win in 4 minutes, 11.02 seconds, more than four seconds ahead of second place Kemmerer. The 4x800 team of Hadley Wilkins, Holly Leiseth, Natalie Speckner and Jordynn Speckner picked up a win in 10:41.57, three seconds ahead of Kemmerer.

The sprint medley relay team finished second to Big Piney but broke the LFL school record in 4:37.14.

The Lady Doggers also picked up a runner-up finish in discus as Izzy Spears threw for 108 feet, 7 inches to place second.

Skyla Wunder finished third in long jump, while Jordynn Speckner placed third in the 800-meter run. Speckner also finished fifth in the 400-meter dash.

In hurdles, the trio of Gibson, Walker and Kaufman placed in both the 100 and 300 races. Walker placed third in the 300 and seventh in the 100, while Kaufman was second in the 100 and sixth in the 300. Gibson was sixth in the 100 and fourth in the 300.

Other placers included Hadley Wilkins, who placed fifth in the 1,600 and Leiseth, who was sixth in the 3,200. Hallie Fuller was sixth in pole vault and Avary Rising was eighth in shot put.

In the boys’ division, the Doggers also picked up two individual state championships.

Boyd Oliver capped his career with a throw of 134-10 to win discus by three feet over second place. He also finished fifth in shot put.

The other state title went to the 4x800 relay team of Myles Wilson, Spears, Posten and Roberts, winning the event in a school record time of 8:25.18.

The 4x400 team of Spears, Roberts, Bremer and Posten also finished second, while the sprint medley relay team of Spears, Cook, Bremer and Roberts placed third. The 4x100 team of Cooper Smith, Aidan Mattheus, Cook and Wyatt Sylvester came home seventh.

Roberts finished a close second in the 800-meter run in 1:58.98, while Slade Hopkins finished fifth in the 200-meter dash.

In the distance events, the Wilson brothers placed in both the mile and two miles. Sully placed third in the two mile, while Myles placed fourth. In the mile, Sully finished fourth, while Myles was sixth.

In hurdles, Bremer only qualified for the 300 finals, but the sophomore made the most of it, finishing third in 39.85 seconds, breaking his own school record.

In the only other field event, Sylvester placed seventh in pole vault.

“All of our relay teams, hurdlers, middle distance and distance ran well and scored solid points. We also put up good points in all the field events we entered,” Lashley said. “I really could not have asked much more out of our athletes. They were focused and they competed hard. These kids represented our school and our community very well.”

LFL ended the state weekend with five boys in six events – Boyd Oliver (discus), Brody Roberts (800, 4x800), Nolan Spears (4x800), Myles Wilson (4x800), Brayden Posten (4x800) – and nine girls in 10 events – Izzy Spears (discus), Jada Kaufman (100 hurdles, 4x400), Emma Walker (4x400), Kenzie Wilkins (4x400), Maddy Saul (4x400), Natalie Speckner (4x800), Holly Leiseth (4x800), Jordynn Speckner (4x800), Hadley Wilkins (4x800) – earning all-state status.

The state meet marked the ends of the careers of six athletes – Maddy Saul, Emma Walker, Hailey Smith, Remington Bremer, Slade Hopkins, Boyd Oliver.

“We are certainly going to miss our six seniors. They provided us with many highlights over the last four years and scored a lot of points at conference, regionals and state,” Lashley said. “On the bright side, next season we will return over 40 seasoned athletes with culminating event experience. With the addition of some very solid incoming freshmen, the future looks bright for Dogger track in 2024.”
