TORRINGTON – Grave side memorial services for Samuel Dean Carroll, 92, will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, November 10, 2017 at the Valley View Cemetery. Sam died October 12, 2017 at Goshen Healthcare Community’s Alzheimer Unit. Cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to Lighthouse Ministries or the Alzheimer Unit at Goshen Healthcare Community. There will be a Celebration of Sam’s life following the grave side service at the Cottonwood Country Club. The Colyer Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements. Sam was born September 17, 1925 in Parnell, Missouri the son of Charles and Esther (Miller) Carroll. The family moved to Fort Laramie, Wyoming and he attended school there and later graduated from Lingle High School. He was drafted into the US Army in 1943 and served in the Combat Engineers during WWII. He was discharged in 1948. He married Florabelle Bohannan on March 4, 1949 in Torrington, Wyoming. They lived in Hagerman Valley, Idaho from 1955 to 1958 and moved to Wheatland, Wyoming in 1961. In 1972 they moved to a farm southwest of Lingle, Wyoming and farmed and ranched there until Sam retired in 1989 and they moved to Torrington.

Sam was a member of the American Legion Post #63 in Lingle, the VFW Post 2918 in Torrington, and the Masonic Lodge #29. He served on the Lingle and Wheatland School Boards, the FHA Board, the North Hills Baptist Church Board, and served as Goshen County Commissioner for eight years. In 1966 he was named the “Outstanding Young Farmer” in Platte County. He enjoyed horses and participated in the Wagon Train for 10 to 15 years doing trips along the Cheyenne/Deadwood route and around Fort Laramie, Guernsey, Fort Robinson and other places.

Sam is survived by his wife Florabelle Carroll of Torrington, Wyoming; sons Rick (Deb) Carroll and Kelley (Judy) Carroll all of Torrington; four grandchildren Taylor (Dawn) Carroll, Bradi (Julie) Carroll, Jessica (Chad) King and Erin Carroll; and seven great grandchildren Isaac Carroll, Aiden Carroll, Brooke Carroll, Gavin Carroll, Samuel King, Owen King and Jack King.  He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters Shirley Lewis, Bonnie Armstrong, and Thelma Lammon; and a brother Harley Carroll.
