Sagebrush and Roses

TORRINGTON -- The annual Sagebrush & Roses event, which is sponsored by the Eastern Wyoming College Foundation, made a very good and lasting impression on EWC President Lesley Travers. It was her first experience with the fund raiser, having assumed her duties at EWC in July.

“Sagebrush and Roses was a fabulous affair that the Goshen County residents have come to enjoy and look forward to," Travers said Tuseday. "It is one of the jazziest events of the year, and the locals have come to enjoy the fine dining and dancing at a reasonable cost for a great cause.

""The First Dude (her husband, John,) and I thoroughly enjoyed the event. The beef donated by Cargill was so tender and so well prepared by the Bucking Horse. The Crème Brulee was a fabulous end to a terrific dinner. The band was very diverse in their selection of music. And the new gun raffle and quilt auction added some spice to this most popular event.

"We once again felt very welcomed at another great EWC event and feel like we have been in this community for years. It was just as wonderful as we had heard."

Todd Peterson, President of EWC Foundation, was especially pleased with the turnout and successful fund raising.

“The event was highly-successful and we appreciate the efforts of the ag department, the students, and instructors. It was one of the most successful in our history, in attendance and funds raised.”

Winner of the shotgun raffle was Torrington resident Jeff Marsh. After auctioneer Mike McNamee offered the final four ticket holders the opportunity at a 50 /50 live auction, an additional $635 was raised. Tim Nichols, husband of University of Wyoming President Laurie Nichols, donated back his proceeds from the 50/50 live auction. The total amount raised for the shotgun was $2,715.

A quilt crafted by EWC President Dr. Lesley Travers raised an additional $1,100.

Total raised from Sagebrush and Roses was $15,000, according to John Hansen, EWC Director of Insitutional Development.

Kaitlyn Steben, EWC instructor and committee member, said, "As I reflect on the 2018 Sagebrush and Roses, I am in awe of the generosity of our community. It is inspiring to see 350 guests having such a great time, all while supporting the EWC Agriculture Department and Livestock Judging team.”

“We appreciate everybody coming out and supporting the event," said Rick Vonburg, EWC instructor Emeritus.  “The live auctions were a major success and we appreciate the investment in our ag program. Congratulations to the committee for another job well-done.”
