Riding for the Son and not losing their reward

PLATTE COUNTY – Scripturally speaking, Matthew penned the script that said, “And if you give even a cup of cold water to one of the least of my followers, you will surely be rewarded.”

The Christian Motorcycle Association sent three of their bikers to the Dwyer Junction Rest Area on Interstate 25 on Sunday, Aug. 16, and these men were distributing water and snacks to weary bikers who were on their way back home from Sturgis.

This is the second weekend the group had come and set up shop. The weekend before, which would have been the first weekend of the Sturgis Bike Rally, they passed out water to 160 bikers going to or coming back from Sturgis.

“We’re giving away free water and snacks,” said CMA member Jeff Waltermire from LaGrange. “Mostly to anybody, but we’re really hoping to talk to people coming from Sturgis. We’re doing it as an outreach to those people.”

Waltermire, Victor Sorrick and Tim Wells, both from Torrington came in early on Harleys and set up a water stop and snack shop under one of the rest stop enclosures.

The Christian Motorcycle Association was founded and operates out of Hatfield, Ark. Today their national headquarters is there.

“We are a worldwide ministry,” Wells said. “Last weekend they had 160 bikes in one day.

Both Wells and Sorrick belong to the Torrington chapter and Waltermire is running out of the Cheyenne chapter.

According to the organization website their vision statement says, “Vision: Changing the world, one heart at a time.

We will accomplish our vision through:

Evangelistic outreach primarily, but not exclusively, to the motorcycling community.

Run for the Son, where we will partner with ministries with world-reaching potential.

Equipping our members in ministry training that aligns itself with Biblical truths.

A servant’s attitude to the world and to our members (i.e. Here if you need us).

Quality products that aid in evangelistic outreach.

An effective WorkCenter support team.

Their mission, according to the organization, is “to inspire our leaders and members to be the most organized, advanced, equipped, financially stable organization, full of integrity in the motorcycling industry and the Kingdom of God.”
