TORRINGTON – Private services for Richard A. Stovall, 77, will be held at a later date. Richard died Sept. 20, 2019, at Goshen Healthcare Community and cremation has taken place. The Colyer Funeral Home assisted the family with cremation arrangements.

Richard was born April 21, 1942, in Billings, Mont., the son of Alvin and Lena (Mellish) Stovall. He attended school in Torrington until the eighth grade, when he started working to help support the family. He worked for Jack Rife at his dairy for 20 years. 

He married Leslie Brooks on Jan. 16, 1965, in Torrington. He farmed for others in the area and then worked at a gas station in Torrington and then at Roy’s Cold Storage for a time. He ran a cow/calf operation for the Hair Pin Ranch for three years before retiring at the age of 62.

Richard enjoyed fishing, hiking, camping and spending time with his family.

Richard is survived by a daughter, Robin Deffenbaugh of Torrington; two sons, Richard Stovall Jr. of Mitchell, Neb., and Patrick Stovall and his fiancé Diana Robinett of Torrington; a brother, James Stovall of Torrington; two sisters, Joanne Mark and Susan Filbert of Torrington; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Leslie; a grandson, Andrew Deffenbaugh; three sisters, Gloria Stull, Patricia Stovall and Roberta Prazma; and three brothers, Jackie Lee Stovall, Donald Ray Stovall and Bruce Alan Stovall.
