TORRINGTON – The Goshen County Board of Commissioners had a fairly short day at the Goshen County Courthouse on Tuesday, wrapping up its first meeting of the month after about an hour of discussion over upcoming road projects and accepting a handful of departmental reports from county leaders.
Interim Goshen County Road and Bridge Superintendent Val Hankins said the department is focusing on road maintenance until spring, when it will begin to work on larger projects.
“We’re just maintaining what we can,” she said. “It’s worse up north. We probably have a few machines up there just removing snow that has blown back in.”
Hankins reported Road and Bridge is gearing up to take on some if the issues with culverts around the county to fix long-term issues that have proven detrimental to the roads.
“That’s something we’ve needed to do for quite some time, so we’re taking the time to do that in preparation to hit the roads in the springs and get things fixed up,” she said. “Those will help us get the water off the roads and get the roads back to what they need to be.”

Commission Vice Chairman Cody Cox told Hankins and county engineer Bob Taylor he had received word that school buses were having issues on Arrowhead Road. Hankins said the department is planning to get machinery in the area by the end of the week and is examining a larger-scale project to fix the road.
“That is a project that we are working on,” Hankins said. “That is one we want to bid out and get CRF funds to take care of.”
“It’s a project that is on our agenda,” Taylor said. “We have taken some soil samples and did some surveying.”
The commission unanimously accepted the road and bridge report.
Goshen County Clerk Cindy Kenyon told the commission that her department had received its first shipment of new election equipment in preparation for the 2020 general election.
“We have received the election equipment schedule, which basically lasts almost the entire month of March with trainings and delivery and palleting the old stuff,” she said. “We are very busy.”
Kenyon reported her office earned $14,955.50 last month. Kenyon also reported Goshen County District Court Clerk Brandi Correa’s office made $3,110.57.
The commission accepted both reports unanimously.
Goshen County Fire Warden Bill Law told the commission the Annual Operating Plan workshop in Casper, which helps fire departments in the region get on the same page in the event mutual aid is requested, mostly involved clarification of some minor points and that the plan would be ready to distribute to local departments soon.
His report was accepted unanimously.
