TORRINGTON – Eastern Wyoming College sophomore Karissa Rayhill led the team at the weekend’s Lancer Rodeo.
Rayhill turned in a performance of 2.6 seconds in the breakaway roping event on Sunday’s championship short-go to win the event in 6.0 seconds on two attempts. Her run on Sunday was the fastest of the weekend, backing up her run of 3.4 seconds in the long-round.
Rayhill also finished third in barrel racing with runs of 15.28 and 15.53 seconds. Her 15.28-second run on Sunday was the fastest of the round but was .05 seconds off the winning time turned in by Ellie Bard of Gillette College.
The team roping duo of Trace Travnicek and Shepherd Ryan came into Sunday’s short-go eighth with a run of 8.0 seconds. They missed the calf on their second attempt and did not place in the weekend average.
Yoder native Haiden Thompson won the weekend goat tying average and was fourth in barrel racing.
The University of Wyoming won the men’s team title, while Gillette College won the women’s title. The Lady Lancers were second in the final weekend team standings.
Eastern Wyoming and the rest of the Central Rocky Mountain Region teams head to Fort Collins, Colorado this weekend to take part in the Colorado State University rodeo. Action gets underway on March 31 and wraps up April 2.
