TORRINGTON – Now a quarter-century strong, the Valley Christian School Soup Supper and Auction features live and silent auctions, a children’s carnival and – of course – soup.
Attendees can choose from the event’s perennial selection of creamy potato, vegetable stew and chili, in addition to an assortment
of pies.
“The public has always supported our soup supper – it’s been amazing,” VCS Principal Cheryl Stoeger said. “We usually have between 700 and 800 people attend.”
Although the menu doesn’t change, auction items vary from year to year. Stoeger said Saturday’s selection is one the public won’t want to miss.
“We have quite a few new auction items this year,” she said. “It’s going to be fun.”
Items up for bid can be found on the following website: www.auctria.com/auction/vcs2018. Highlights include a Liberty Centurion 18-gun safe, multi-destination timeshare, unguided pheasant hunt, tools, art, toys and more.
“This is also the third year for the kids’ carnival,” Stoeger said. “We have lots of fun things to do.”
The event will also offer a bake sale and the ever-popular $750 grocery shopping spree raffle.
The school relies on proceeds from the supper – which range between $35,000 and $40,000, per Stoeger – to supplement its finances throughout the summer months.
“It’s amazing how many volunteers we have,” Stoeger said. “Ninety percent of our parents are able to come and help, and we have several community volunteers, too.”
The 2018 VCS Soup Supper and Auction is Saturday, Feb. 3 at the Goshen County Fairgrounds’ Rendezvous Center. Doors open at 4:30 p.m. for silent auction browsing; soup is served from 5 to 8 p.m.; and the live auction begins 6:30 p.m.
Tickets are available at the door for $5/person. Children under three years are free.
