TORRINGTON – There is only one week left of the Wyoming high school football regular season, which means teams across the state will be fighting for their playoff lives or to better their seed.

Looking at the three local teams, the scenarios are pretty simple.

3A

Torrington has already locked up the No. 1 seed out of the east, regardless of what happens against Riverton tonight. With a 4-0 record in the conference and the tiebreaker over Douglas, Torrington cannot be unseated from its top spot. The Blazers are guaranteed to open the playoffs by hosting Worland (3-4, 3-3), who is cemented into the fourth seed from the west.

Also out of the east, Douglas, Buffalo and Rawlins are guaranteed the postseason, with Riverton and Lander already eliminated. Depending on how Friday’s games play out, the trio from the east could finish in any order from seeds 2-4. The only game in the west that affects playoff seeding is Star Valley at Green River, with the winner getting the top seed and the loser taking No. 2. Cody and Worland are No. 3 and No. 4, with Evanston, Powell and Jackson all eliminated.

1A 11-man

Southeast has one option to get into the playoffs – win over Lusk on Friday. The winner between the Tigers and Cyclones punches their ticket for the postseason, while the losers’ season comes to a close. A win would put Southeast as the fourth seed from the east, where they are guaranteed to head to Cokeville (7-0, 4-0), who has already secured the No. 1 seed from the west.

The top three seeds in the east are still up for grabs. Pine Bluffs, Big Horn and Upton-Sundance are the three teams that are jostling for home field advantage. The games Friday will determine the seeding moving forward, but one scenario exists where a coin-flip would decide the pecking order in the east. Tongue River and Wright are already eliminated out of the east.

In the west, Cokeville and Rocky Mountain are the top two seeds. Saratoga and Wind River meet tonight, with the winner clinching the third seed and the loser falling to the fourth seed. Shoshoni and Wyoming Indian are eliminated.

1A six-man

With a 1-5 record in the conference, the Lingle-Fort Laramie Doggers are unable to catch up in the playoff race. Their season concludes after their game against South Platte, Neb. on Friday.

In the east, Kaycee, who has won 27-straight games, is locking into the No. 1 seed and they will host Meeteetse from the west, who is locked into the fourth seed. For the remaining three seeds in the east, Midwest, Hanna-Elk Mountain, Hulett and Guernsey-Sunrise are all in contention. Depending on how the games pan out Friday, a coin-flip may decide which of the four teams are done for the year. Normative Services and Rock River join L-FL as teams from the east that are eliminated.

Meeteetse is the only team from the west that knows their seed (fourth) before this weekend’s slate of games. Farson-Eden, Little Snake River and Burlington are fighting it out at the top to settle the top three seeds. Riverside is ineligible for the playoffs and Ten Sleep, St. Stephens and Dubois have been eliminated for contention.
