TORRINGTON – It was off to the Pinewood Derby races Saturday for the Goshen County Cub Scouts.
The Unit 26 Cub Scouts hosted their Pinewood Derby car race at the First United Presbyterian Church.
Saturday morning was filled with kids anticipating watching their cars zoom down the track in hopes of winning a trophy and lunch to conclude it.
Torrington hasn’t had a Cub Scout pack for several years, but it has recently started back up.
Kate Norton, the Webelo’s Den Leader, said the race was something Pack 26 could do for a fun activity and the community was welcome to attend. In the future they may try to continue doing the races as a bigger event to start raising some money for the pack.
“Torrington hasn’t had a Cub Scout Pack for a few years,” Norton said. “We’ve got our whole pack here. It’s just fun times.”
The Scouts had three brackets for the races and numerous other prizes for design and sportsmanship. Each participant got to let their imagination run wild. Cars included a rainbow car, one with eyeballs and there was even a piano.
Norton said they paint their own cars and build them to their best and safest ability with minimal help from parents.
