TORRINGTON – With Green River coming to town Friday, the Torrington Trailblazers have one game to go before they can advance their thoughts to the state championship game.

Torrington is coming off of a 46-21 win over Worland in the quarterfinals last week. The win over the Warriors was the Blazers’ seventh-straight win. The last time Torrington lost was in Week 2 on the road in Star Valley. The Blazers sit at 8-1 this season as the top seed from the east.

The Wolves are coming into Torrington as the No. 2 seed from the west. To advance to the semi-finals, Green River picked up the home win over Douglas, 28-7. Green River sits at 7-2 this season, with losses against Evanston in Week 5 (27-24) and Star Valley in Week 8 (21-0). The loss to the Braves put the Wolves at the second seed in the west.

Torrington and Green River have played five common opponents this year in Lander, Riverton, Douglas, Worland and Star Valley. Both the Blazers and Wolves have only lost to Star Valley among the common opponents. Green River has outscored the five common opponents 166-68, while Torrington has outscored the same five teams 195-80.

According to Wyoming-football.com, Torrington and Green River have played each other six times before, three of which were playoff games. The Blazers lost to the Wolves in the semi-finals in 1950, but Torrington got their revenge in the semi-finals in 1954.

Over the past three years, the two programs have played each other four times. Torrington beat Green River in 2014 (34-13) and 2015 (31-21), before the Wolves got payback. Green River beat the Blazers in Torrington twice last season, once in the regular season (28-14) and again in the quarterfinals (27-21).

With a trip to Laramie on the line to play either Star Valley or Cody for the state championship, the Blazers will be looking to get playoff retribution from last year’s quarterfinal contest.
