DOUGLAS – Funeral liturgy for Ollievia Jane Nickel, 93, was held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 19, 2022 at the Saint James Catholic Church in Douglas, Wyoming with Father Mike Carr as the Celebrant. Inurnment will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Axtell, Nebraska on Monday, July 25, 2022.

Jane Nickel died on Tuesday, Tuesday, July 12, 2022 at the Memorial Hospital of Converse County in Douglas.

She was born on Sunday, January 20, 1929 in Grand Island, Nebraska the daughter of Frank and Olive Ruth (Cameron) Shanley. They lived at Fort Robinson, Nebraska and Jane received her education at Assumption Academy in Crawford, Nebraska. She attended nursing school in Omaha, Nebraska where she received her registered nurse certificate in 1951. She married Leo Ferdinand Nickel on February 13, 1951 at Camp Pendleton in Oceanside, California. Following the Korean Conflict, they returned to the family farm in Axtell. Jane and Leo moved to Taylor, Nebraska and she worked as the director of nurses at the hospital in Sargent, Nebraska. In 1963 they moved to Cheyenne, Wyoming and raised their family in Egbert, Wyoming and she worked at DePaul Hospital in Cheyenne. They moved to Montana and lived in McCloud for a time prior to moving to Wheatland, Wyoming where she was the director of nurses at the Platte County Memorial Hospital. She was responsible in getting the Wheatland hospital JACHO certified. They than moved to Torrington, Wyoming and she worked at the Torrington Hospital and Nursing Home as the director of nurses. They retired to Douglas in 2009.

While living in Douglas she was active and involved with Saint James Catholic Church and the Douglas Senior Citizens Center. Jane was an avid reader and enjoyed many sewing projects. Jane was always quiet involved with her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren activities throughout the years.

Jane was survived by her children, Giselle (Jim) Grimes of Douglas and Kevin (Jackie) Nickel of Torrington; grandchildren, Michele (Curt) Ogburn, Erin Grimes, Alex Grimes, and Alan Grimes; great grandchildren, Dutch Ogburn, Caislyn Ogburn, Michael Phillips, and Gabriel Phillips; and great-great grandchildren, Leo Grimes and Angela Grimes.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leo, on September 21, 2011; infant sons, Leo Patrick Nickel and Timothy James Nickel; two sisters; and three brothers.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Douglas Senior Citizens Center, P.O. Box 192, Douglas, Wyoming 82633 would be appreciated by the family.
