TORRINGTON – Boy Scout Unit 26 held its annual Pinewood Derby race on Saturday morning at the First Wyoming United Presbyterian Church on Main Street.
The derby featured hand-carved cars made of pine, and the Scouts were tasked with designing a vehicle that would travel the fastest down a guided wood track. The fastest car was ‘Firebird,’ built by Sandra Vanatta, which edged out Gabriel Garcia’s ‘Phantom’ and Vicente Barron’s ‘Batmobile’ in a three-way scramble for the win.
The race included entrees from all ages of scouts, from beginners to high school-age.
Unit 26 is open to boys and girls. For more information, contact scout leader Howard Sinclair at (307) 575-3586.
