GILLETTE – Nineteen Goshen County athletes competed at the Gillette Indoor Track Invitational over the weekend, bringing home six top-15 finishes.

Ten Doggers, seven Blazers and two Cyclones joined the Cheyenne Central Indians on the trip up there, up from the three Doggers that represented Goshen County to open the season.

“This week was the first meet of the year for most of our athletes, and proved to be a good starting point for them,” Goshen County coach Mike Lashley said.

L-FL’s Landen Fuller had another solid weekend, snagging third in the 400-meter with a time of 53.21 seconds. He also took fifth in the 200 (24.34).

“Once again, Landen Fuller showed why he is one of the top sprinters in the state by placing in two events,” Lashley said.

Representing the Blazers, Aaron Borger took sixth in the 800 with a time of 2:14.25. Torrington shot putters Corbin Harris and Scott Woodruff competed in Gillette. Harris captured sixth with a put of 43-5.25, while Woodruff’s 40-3.5 effort earned him 11th.

“Aaron Borger had a very good showing in the 800,” Lashley said. “Corbin Harris and Scott Woodruff seemed to pick up where they left off last spring in the show put.”

On the girls side, Jordyn Gaspers picked up the lone top-15 finish, taking 13th in the triple jump, clearing 28 feet-11 inches.

The locals are slated to rejoin the Indians for action on Friday at the University of Wyoming Fieldhouse, with events kicking off at 9 a.m.

“I anticipate that we will see continued improvement out of all of our athletes next week,” Lashley said. “Running indoor track is quite different from outdoor track. It sometimes takes a few weeks to get back into the groove of competing indoors and running on a smaller track.”
