Mets mount comeback in walk-off win

TORRINGTON – The Mets trailed 4-1 heading into the bottom of the fifth inning Thursday, but three runs in the fifth forced a sixth inning, where the Mets won in walk-off fashion over the Cardinals.
The Cardinals got started early, plating three straight runs in the second inning. Logan Sandusky, Kaden Miller and Brandon Bumguardner all crossed the plate in the inning. In the bottom of the second inning, Justin Warren scored to put the score at 3-1. The Cards added a fourth run in the third, with Kealy Carson coming around to score.
Heading to the bottom of the fifth, the Mets were still behind 4-1. Braeden Reid, Dawson McFadden and Keyan Sargent all came around the score for the Mets, tying the game up at four heading to the sixth inning. The Cardinals were held scoreless in the top of the frame, while Reid came around to score a second time in as many innings, giving the Mets the walk-off win.
On the other diamond, the Yankees handled business against the Cubs. After taking a 3-0 lead in the first inning, the Cubs struggled to keep their bats hot. The Yankees charged back, scoring eight runs between the second and third innings.

Another Cubs run in the third inning brought the score to 8-4 heading to the fourth. The Yankees again kept the bats going, adding seven runs over the next two innings. A run for the Cubs in the final inning was not enough, falling 15-5.
Ben Firminhac and Barrett Eichenberger both scored three runs in the win for the Yankees, with Ayden Desmond, Tyler Bennick and Nathaniel Stull each scoring twice.
In Monday night’s action, the Cardinals returned to their winning ways, picking up a 20-3 win over the Cubs. Both teams were tied at three after the first inning, but the Cards found their way around the bases for the rest of the game. Carson and Nolan Long each had inside-the-park homeruns in the win.
The Mets continued their run, picking up a comeback win over the Yankees Monday. The Yanks came out to the early lead, scoring five in the first two frames compared to the Mets’ one. The Mets got hot at the plate, scoring one in the fourth and three in both the fifth and sixth innings.
Facing an 8-5 deficit in the bottom of the sixth, the Yankees plated two runs, but came up one run short, falling 8-7.
Mateo Correa scored three runs in the loss for the Yankees. The Mets’ Austin Short recorded a two-run homerun in the sixth and crossed the plate twice on the night. McFadden also had two runs for the Mets.
The Cardinals still sit atop the standings with a 6-2 record, with the Yankees in second with a 4-4 record. With the Mets’ recent success, they have pulled into a tie for third with the Cubs, with both teams holding a 3-5 record.
