BILLINGS, Mont. – Merna Ann (McCoy) Broberg, 52, passed away with her family by her side at the Billings Clinic Hospital in Montana July 15, 2021. Cremation has taken place. Celebration of life will be held in Fort Laramie, Wyoming on Aug. 7, 2021, at the North Park from 1-3 p.m., potluck style. The family would like any memorials and donations for services to be sent in her name to Bullis Mortuary in Hardin, Montana. Merna will be laid to rest with her parents in Des Moines, Iowa at a later date.

Merna was born Aug. 6, 1968, to Leon Christiansen and Donna Foote in Marshalltown, Iowa. She was adopted at the age of four and lived in Minnesota with her adopted family who later settled in Cheyenne, Wyoming. 

Merna lived most of her adult life in the Torrington, Wyoming area where she married her husband of 27 years, Kirk E. Broberg Sr. and raised three children. She was a homemaker for most of her life, she was also a certified CNA and helped members of her community with babysitting, yard work, and taking care of the elderly in their homes. Merna grew close to her friends in the community and thought of them as family. She loved being outdoors gardening or fishing at the lake in the summer, while in the cooler months you would find her crafting with plastic canvas, crocheting, doing puzzles and painting while listening to crime shows. Merna’s favorite people called her “Grandma.” She loved having them at her house and was always up for a sleepover (with all of them) and was always prepared to spoil the, with snacks, candy, and popsicles.

Merna is preceded in death by her parents, Leon and Donna, her angel sister, adopted dad, Elwin “Dennis” McCoy, ex-husband Kirk E. Broberg Sr., and her grandson Erik Kurth.

She is survived by her three children, Ashley (Broberg) and Nicolas Kurth of Hardin, Montana, Amber (Broberg) and Josh Ferguson of Central City, Nebraska, Kirk E. Broberg Jr. and Emmalee Hortin of Cheyenne, Wyoming, grandchildren, Levi (14) Trevor (11) Lailah (7) Ian (7) Hazel (6) Jasmine (5) Hayzen (3) Hadlee (1) Harper (1), Mom, Carolyn (Ken) Couey of Omaha, Nebraska, brother, Wesley McCoy of Omaha, numerous inherited children and grandchildren she kept close to her heart, and many friends she called family.
