McManamen earns honors

POWELL – Dani McManamen, a 2016 graduate of Southeast and now a player for Northwest College, was honored for her efforts this year by being named to the all-defensive and all-tournament teams.

"Dani has truly been a pleasure to coach," Northwest coach Janis Beal said. "She works so hard and her teammates love her. She was always willing to take on whatever role needed to help our team succeed."

McManamen continued her string of solid seasons this year, playing in all 33 games for the Lady Trappers, 32 of which she started in. For Northwest, the sophomore averaged 7.5 points, 5.3 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.2 steals per game. She shot 59.7 percent from the field and 76.2 percent from the free-throw line.

During the Region IX Tournament, McManamen averaged 4.3 points, 5.3 boards, 3.7 assists and a steal per game, earning her a spot on the all-tournament team. She was a menace on the defensive end of the floor for the whole season as well.

"Most games she was matched up against the opposing team's best offensive player and I'm glad the opposing coaches saw how valuable she was to us by voting her to the all-defensive team," Beal said.

The former Lady Cyclone added to her basketball accolades. A season ago, McManamen was named to both the all-defensive team and academic all-region. For Southeast, she earned all-state as both a junior and senior. She earned all-conference three years, including being named the 2A Southeast player of the year as a senior for the 2015-16 season.

McManamen and the Lady Trappers reached the semi-finals of the of the Region IX Tournament. They picked up wins over Western Wyoming Community College (103-64) and Trinidad State Junior College (79-58), before falling to Western Nebraska Community College (67-62) in the semi’s. Northwest finished the year with a 25-8 record.
