MANKATO, Minn. – Eleanor West was born Lucy Eleanor Gould, May 25, 1930, in Miami, Florida. She had a wonderful childhood with one brother, George, and one sister, Jeanne, and lots of friends and relatives.
Three great things happened to her in 1948. She graduated from Miami Edison high school, met the love of her life and future husband, Eugene West, and thirdly, discovered the joy of a relationship with Jesus Christ. She was a passionate lifelong follower of the Lord.
As a single, she had the unique opportunity to work for the FBI in Washington, D.C. for a few years. Eleanor and Gene were finally married in Illinois in 1954. Eleanor was a Super Mom to three sons, Tim in 1955, Mark in 1957 and Paul in 1960. Eleanor’s gift to the world was her desire to serve everyone she met in every possible way. She made friends easily and was a great friend to many.
Gene became a pastor and Eleanor served right alongside him. In 1970, Gene and Eleanor answered the call to Bethel Baptist Church in Torrington, Wyoming. Eleanor worked as an aid and librarian in the Torrington elementary and middle schools for years. In 1985, Gene and Eleanor moved to Park Rapids to serve a new church. Sadly, in May 1986 Gene passed away from a heart condition and Eleanor became a widow. She stayed in Minnesota close to family and worked in an office for a national beverage company until retirement in 1999. She lived in Mankato for the last 17 years. She passed away at age 90 on Nov. 24, 2020.
