Loya, Merrigan lead THS at state meet

ETHETE – The Torrington High School cross country team wrapped up its 2021 season at the Wyoming Class 3A State Cross Country Championships in Ethete hosted by Wyoming Indian High School.

The Blazers were led by junior Aydan Loya and sophomore Ada Merrigan.

In the boys’ race, Loya finished 19th in 17 minutes, 49.82 seconds, a minute and a half of the winning of 16:16.47 of Owen Burnett of Mountain View High School.

Sophomore Myles Wilson finished 35th in 18:34.32, while senior Weston Cronk placed 41st in 18:36.37. Senior Michael Sandusky was 69th in 19:46.35, while senior Kyland Fuller finished 74th in 19:56.26. Junior Collin Taylor placed 81st in 20:08.34, and sophomore Zebdiel Munoz was 90th in 20:42.28.

As a team, the Blazers finished ninth with 238 points. Mountain View won the state title with 50 points, while Star Valley was second with 71. Buffalo was third with 129.

In the girls’ race, Merrigan was the first Lady Blazer across the finish line in 21:46.04 to place 23rd, while senior Tyne Stokes was 36th in 22:20.41. Junior Amberly Froerer finished 64th in 23:51.87, and freshman Callie Taylor placed 68th in 23:56.74. Freshman Tiffany Krueger was 81st in 25:37.81.

As a team, the Lady Blazers placed 12th with 269 points. Cody won the team title with 68, while Lander Valley was second with 115. Star Valley was third with 128.
