TORRINGTON – The Lovell Mustangs, the Green River Knights and the Riverton Raiders advanced to the second round of the Wyoming State ‘A’ Legion Baseball Tournament Wednesday at Dean Bullock Field at the Torrington Sports Complex.

Lovell 5, Douglas 3

Tied at three, the No. 2 seeded Lovell Mustangs broke the tie with a double from E. Price and added a second run courtesy of an RBI single from Jess Wambeke in the bottom of the sixth before facing only four batters in the top of the seventh to secure a 5-3 win over the No. 3 seeded Douglas Cats.

The Mustangs were first on the scoreboard with a pair of RBI ground outs in the bottom of the second from Kaleb Snyder and Ethan Hessenthaler.

Every time Lovell took the lead, the Cats responded right back to the tie the game.

Two innings later, Douglas tied the game at two, but Lovell regained the lead on a wild pitch.

A sacrifice fly by Douglas’ Jordan Bobrowski tied the game yet again in the top of the sixth before Lovell finished the game off in the home half of the inning.

Price paced the Lovell offense with two hits, while Zack Keisel scored three runs.

Brock Hill earned the win in relief, working the final three innings. Cameryn Spence was tagged with the loss for Douglas.

Green River 11,

Wheatland 6

Wheatland struggled to find the strike zone but still found a way to make the game close in the end as the No. 4 seeded Green River Knights walked past the Lobos, 11-6.

The Knights worked 10 walks in a nine-run second inning to take a commanding 10-0 lead, while Wheatland went through three pitchers in the frame. In all, Wheatland issued 14 base on balls in the loss.

It was all the Green River needed to knock off the top-seeded team from the East Conference, but Wheatland wasn’t going away quietly.

With an 11-1 deficit and staring a run rule in the face, Wheatland kept the game alive, scoring twice in the bottom of the fifth inning courtesy of a wild pitch and passed ball.

The Lobos continued to its comeback into the seventh, adding three more runs with RBIs from Mytch Pollock, Ned Hageman and Cross Hernandez.

Ramsey Taliaferro picked up the win for Green River, striking out six in three innings of work, while Joel Anderson was tagged with the loss for the Lobos.

Riverton 19, Cheyenne 5

The Cheyenne Hawks came out swinging in the bottom of the first inning, scoring three runs, but it wasn’t enough as the Riverton Raiders doubled that run in the top of the second en route to a 19-5 win.

The Raiders, the No. 3 seed from the West, plated six in the second and only saw their lead grow the remainder of the game.

Ridge McCoy set the tone with a leadoff single. Dillon Fabricus, Jereko Martinez and Dalton Lassiter followed it up with hits before the Hawks could record an out.

Riverton scored at least one more run in each of the remaining innings.

The Raiders pounded out 22 hits, including eight batters who tallied at least two hits apiece.

Lassiter  and Jaren Draper paced the attack with four hits apiece and combined for six RBIs and four runs scored, while McCoy and Martinez added three hits apiece.

Martinez was credited with the win, striking out four in five innings work, while Grant Redman was tagged with the loss for Cheyenne.
