TORRINGTON – Mass of Christian Burial for Lorenz “Lawrence” Martinez, 80, will be at 2 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 21, 2017, at St Rose Catholic Church in Torrington with Father Ray Moss officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in the Valley View Cemetery in Torrington.
Lawrence died Dec. 17, 2017 at the VA Medical Center in Cheyenne. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. Arrangements are by the Colyer Funeral Home and condolences may be sent to www.colyerfuneralhome.com. 
Lawrence was born Aug. 10, 1937, in Torrington, the son of Preciliano and Antonia (Romero) Martinez. He grew up in Torrington and after school he joined the U.S. Army in January 1955. He was discharged in 1957 and returned to Torrington.
He married Phyllis Martinez on March 13, 1957 and they lived in Torrington. He worked in the Goshen County area in construction, at the Sugar Factory and the power plant at Wheatland.
Lawrence enjoyed fixing and selling old lawn mowers. He was a member of the Laborers Union in Cheyenne.
Lawrence is survived by: Two daughters, Kathy Martinez and Lorraine Herrera both of Torrington; a son, Larry Martinez of Aurora, Colo.; a sister Helen Urvina of Yakima, Wash.; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, three brothers, three sisters, and one grandson.
